Mihai Constandis, Cognizant Softvision: “What we learned from this past year is that we can definitely rely on productivity”

“If we look back in the history of software, the first challenge was to resolve the functionality part of the software. During the last 20 years, the non-functional aspects were the key, things like performance, security, scalability. The more the users were using the digital systems, the more problems and challenges we’ve been seeing.
Obviously, the technologies have evolved so much that they can cover for these non-functional aspects as well. Right now, it is not enough to have a functional system, you need to have a secure system, a scalable system, you need to right performance to address millions of requests in a context in which the overall privacy and the security are absolutely paramount,” Mihai Constandis, Head of Eastern Europe Studios, Cognizant Softvision said during the Romanian Business Services Forum 2021 organized by Outsourcing Today.
“I think in the last year there was a clear pressure on the safety, the security because many organizations were forced to use digital systems in order to get in front of their consumers. We are living in an era in which technology is key, but the functional and non-functional are part of this experience. As a software engineering company we have the responsibility to address both functionality and providing the right experience for our end-consumers.
During these times, leadership skills are essential to enable the success from business environment, to create the culture of evolution, the clear sense of community. In Cognizant Softvision the leadership is focused on two core dimensions: our people and our clients. Community managers are focused very much on people evolution, their career, constant motivation, ensuring there is always a fit between aspirations and what the project is offering. This fosters a culture of belonging and gives us a clear sense of community.
I don’t think that the physical distance is an issue anymore. We can organize and create hybrid environments in which we can be face-to-face but still have people who are participating remotely. A hybrid model will be the future, and the key is our attention to people in general.
The key word is definitely ‘experience’. We are living times in which the experience we see is absolutely key. We are spending so much time working, and the experience while working is important. What we learned from this past year is that we can definitely rely on the productivity. We should trust everyone working for us, even if they are not in the office. Our work vision is relying on key words such as flexibility, trust, optionality, in a hybrid approach which combines working from home with working from the office.”
