The data center infrastructure market in Romania could reach USD 800 million by 2035. Announced investment projects exceed 1.8 GW
· The projects for which the investor, location and planned capacity have been announced exceed 1.4 GW.
· DataCenter Forum 2027 will analyze in detail the market situation and major development trends.
· Topics of interest include PPA contracts, Data Center REITs, and the value of the data center services market.
Bucharest, October 2026 – The data center infrastructure market in Romania could reach almost USD 800 million by 2035, amid the expansion of cloud services, the digitization of the economy and the increase in demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. In parallel, the data center projects publicly announced in recent years indicate a significant investment potential, with a cumulative planned capacity of over 1.8 GW, according to an analysis conducted by Tema Energy.
According to the Romania Data Center Infrastructure Market report, conducted by DC Market Insights, the value of the market has increased from USD 204.34 million in 2020 to USD 346.87 million in 2025, an advance of almost 70% in five years. For 2035, the analysis estimates a value of USD 794.68 million, corresponding to an average annual growth rate of 8.57%.
The estimate refers to the data center infrastructure market – power and power distribution, cooling, racks, associated IT infrastructure, monitoring and management – and not to the value of commercial services provided by operators. Electrical infrastructure represents the largest segment of the market, and the increase in IT equipment density, associated with artificial intelligence, will amplify investments in power, business continuity and advanced cooling technologies.
Over 1.8 GW in data center projects announced in Romania
An indicator of the market’s potential is the size of publicly announced and not yet completed projects. Tema Energy’s analysis, based on publicly available information, indicates a potential pipeline of over 1.8 GW, structured in two categories.
The first category, of approximately 1.46 GW, includes projects for which the investor, location and planned capacity are known. These include the ClusterPower/AIC developments in Dolj, WDP/Lamas Invest in Ilfov, Portland Trust in Bucharest,
DriverAI/Leviatan in Cluj, SANY International in Timisoara, NIMB in Bucharest and NXDATA-3 in Tunari.
The second category, of around 370–375 MW, brings together projects that have been publicly announced, but for which all information on location, investor or stage of development is not yet available.
These values represent investment intentions and plans, not contracted or guaranteed IT capacity. Projects are at different stages of maturity, and the communicated capacities may designate IT power, installed power or power connecting to the power grid. Even with these precautions, the size of the pipeline indicates significant potential for market development.
“The Data Center projects announced in 2025 and 2026 represent a huge opportunity for Romania and can radically change the size of the local market. Romania has a real chance of attracting important investments if it can provide available energy, connectivity and the ability to quickly build infrastructure to international standards. Even if only a few of these projects materialize, we are talking about investments in the order of millions of euros for each MW built and about an economic impact that extends to the entire ecosystem: design, construction, equipment, IT, certification and operation”, says Mihai Manole, Managing Partner Tema Energy.
Local perspectives are also supported by international analyses. Bucharest ranks 21st in the Savills Power and Place Index Top 30, a ranking that assesses the future development potential of data centers in 54 global markets. At the same time, the PwC Global Data Centre Outlook estimates the growth of annual investments in data centers worldwide from approximately USD 560 billion in 2025 to USD 1.1 trillion in 2030.
DataCenter Forum 2027: where investment, energy and AI infrastructure meet
These developments will be the starting point of the debates at the DataCenter Forum 2027, scheduled for May 12, 2027, at the Face Convention Center in Bucharest.
Now in its ninth edition, the event aims to provide an x-ray of the local market and to analyze the opportunities through which Romania can attract a larger part of European investments in digital infrastructure.
Under the motto “Let’s build together the future of Romania’s digital infrastructure”, the conference will bring together data center operators, global technology providers, investors, real estate developers, energy companies and representatives of the authorities.
The preliminary agenda includes topics that reflect the transformations of the industry:
· X-ray of the local market: what projects have been announced, how many have entered construction and what new capacity could become operational?
· Energy for AI: access to the electricity grid, renewables and PPA contracts.
· From AI Training to Inference: how is the demand for computing power changing and what opportunities are emerging for Romania?
· Data Center REITs: new ways to finance investments in data centers.
· Efficiency and sustainability: technologies to reduce energy and water consumption, but also social acceptance of new investments.
DataCenter Forum 2027 starts from an increasingly obvious reality: data centers are no longer exclusively an IT industry, but a strategic field at the intersection of energy, investment, technology and public policy.
