German, French and Nordic languages: the passport to some of the most in-demand jobs in BPO & Shared Services
What employers are looking for in 2026
A foreign language can be the starting point for a career in BPO & Shared Services, but the profile sought by employers does not stop there. The ability to understand a request, use the right tools and find a clear solution also matters — particularly in an environment where interaction with international teams and clients is part of everyday work.
Opportunities span different areas, from customer support and accounting to human resources, IT support, data analysis and administration. English appears in many business roles, while knowledge of a second language can significantly expand employment options. German, French, Italian and Spanish, alongside Nordic languages and languages such as Dutch, Polish, Czech and Hungarian, are among the most in demand.
The skills employers seek in 2026
Employers are looking for a combination of language, digital and interpersonal skills. Beyond knowing a tool or a foreign language, what matters is how candidates apply them to manage requests and collaborate with others.
· Foreign languages and intercultural communication. The ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, and to adapt the message to the interlocutor is essential for working with international markets.
· Digital skills. Excel and familiarity with CRM or ERP systems, such as Salesforce, SAP or Oracle, are useful for managing information and workflows. Openness to new tools, including AI solutions, is also increasingly valued.
· Analytical thinking and attention to detail. Interpreting data, verifying information and approaching problems in a structured way support process accuracy.
· Customer orientation. Active listening, empathy and an understanding of the interlocutor’s needs help deliver consistent, professional service.
· Organisation and prioritisation. Managing multiple requests requires setting priorities and tracking tasks in a fast-paced environment.
· Collaboration and adaptability. Working in diverse teams, learning quickly and being open to automation and standardised processes complete the profile employers are seeking.
