Roweb supports the development of local educational projects by sponsoring the robotics team at the World Championships in Brazil
A team of 10 of 8th grade students from C.N. “Zinca Golescu” from Pitesti will represent Romania at the 2022’s World Robotics Championship, organized in Brazil.
The participation comes as a result of obtaining the title of vice-champions at this year’s National Robotics Competition, where they presented a project with the theme “Eco / Green Transport”.
The “TehnoZ Lightning Bolts” team will represent Romania at the “Sesi First International Open” World Robotics Championship, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, between August 5-07, 2022. A number of approximately 100 teams will participate in this international competition. selected from 35,000 teams worldwide, each with the aim of exposing unique robots and their complex projects to the highest level. For about 6 months, the Romanian team was involved in research, problem solving, programming and engineering.
The team members built and programmed a LEGO® Education SPIKE ™ Prime robot that fulfills as many missions as possible on the game board and developed a research project whose objective was to identify and solve a real world problem, according to the theme of the season.
This year, the students from Pitesti participated for the first time in the national robotics competition “First Lego League Challenge 2022” *, where they won the second prize. In the national competition, they chose as their theme “Eco / Green Transport”, namely the optimization of freight transport with benefits in terms of driver safety and comfort, the environment and maintaining the goods transported in the best possible shape.
“This year the team obtained the title of national vice-champions and, thus, we qualified for the Sesi First Lego League International Open Brazil competition, a result that mobilized us and made us responsible. I think that the students’ enthusiasm contributed the most to this success, but the help of all those involved was important. We now have a greater responsibility and we understand that supporting sponsors is indispensable. We are very happy that we found understanding and appreciation from many people and we were able to cover the trip to Brazil, which was expensive “, said Grațiela Ghiordunescu – Computer Science Professor and Project Coordinator.
Roweb supports the robotics team on its path to global success
Roweb, a local software development company, has joined the efforts to support the “TehnoZ Lightning Bolts” team and will provide financial support for travel, accommodation and equipment expenses during the world competition.
“We all want well-trained professionals, able to support today’s challenges in the labor market. On the other hand, it is our responsibility, as players in the private sector, to encourage and support them in the development of skills, especially young people with real potential who show determination and desire to develop. From the position of teacher, I had the opportunity to meet students with remarkable potential. It is one of the benefits of teaching: to see not only what the student in front of you is, but especially how far he can go “, said Viorel Costea, co-founder & CEO of Roweb.
This initiative comes as a complement to Roweb’s approach to supporting education, an area that reflects the company’s values in the direction of “For the love of programming”. Among the projects carried out over time in this segment are the participation in the development of laboratories in the profile faculties in Craiova and Pitești and the donation of IT equipment to them.
* FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a program dedicated to children and young people (9-16 years old), which aims to introduce them to the fascinating world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through a practical, fun and engaging approach, FIRST LEGO League Challenge Participants develop real-world problem-solving skills in a global robotics program that guides and helps today’s students and teachers build a brighter future together. The competition is largely based on teamwork and the activities in which its members take part during a season.
