Orange Business launches the new report Business Internet Security 2023, which provides a detailed picture of the challenges in the field of cyber security in the last year in the context of technological revolutions such as generative AI.

Now in its sixth edition, the new report makes available to experts in the field, but also to the business environment alike, information about the most frequent cyber attacks encountered in the local market, predictions for 2024, but also concrete solutions provided by Orange Business for the protection companies and public administrations.
Distribution of attacks on business verticals in Romania
According to the report made by Orange Business experts who analyzed over 11 million threats identified monthly by the Business Internet Security service, a constant increase in the number of cyber attacks was observed. Analysis of this year’s data showed that the energy sector was the most affected, accounting for 31% of all attacks, followed by transport with over 22%, the government and public services sector with 19%, retail with 19.7% and the of health by more than 10%.
Types of cyber threats and their distribution by region
2023 was a year of ransomware, continuing the trend of previous years, which was manifested by an increased number of attacks that affected many companies and generated losses totaling tens of billions of USD. The analyzed data showed that ransomware attacks continue to spread both through classic vectors such as e-mails, social networks and downloading files from unsecured sources, as well as through new methods such as browser-initiated attacks. In a top of the most widespread types of attacks, ransomware ranks first with more than 34%, followed by phishing with 31% for the third consecutive year, while in 3rd place were attacks of the type DDoS which amounted to 27% of the total incidents. From the point of view of distribution at the national level, most attacks targeted the Bucharest region, which accounted for almost 40% of all threats, followed by the South-East region with 27.13% and the Banat region with 16.27%. Thus, Bucharest is in first place, with an average of 980,000 attacks prevented every month, followed by Constanta with an average of 670,000 attacks monthly, while Timișoara is in third place with almost 340,000 threats detected and blocked each month.
