Free online coding courses to advance the digital skills and education of every Romanian child: Call for IT specialists
Dalia’s Book Association announced the third edition of the Code Hero program, “Hack the future”, which offers free access to coding courses for children aged 8 to 13 y.o., including those with hearing impairments. Registrations are made online, on the organization’s website: www.carteadaliei.ro.
The program aims to reach thousands of primary and secondary learners who have less resources and opportunities for professional development. Children from rural areas and small towns will have priority in participating in the course.
The mentors who will introduce children into the fascinating world of programming are IT specialists or university students studying IT, who share the same desire to support inclusive education and who generously donate their time and experience for the benefit of children.
Those who want to join the team of mentors can do so at any time, by filling out a form available on the organization’s website until 20th of September 2021.
There will be two-course sessions that will run until the end of this year – the summer course and the autumn course, and each of them will be structured on modules specific to the children’s level of knowledge.
Each of the two courses will include one meeting of 1 hour and a half per week, and they will take place exclusively online. Therefore, children from any corner of the country, who have access to the Internet and a computer/laptop with a functional microphone and video camera, can enjoy this interactive, fun, and, above all, helpful learning experience for a future governed by technology.
Oana Ciherean, founder of Dalia’s Book, said:
“At Dalia’s Book, we believe that education is the best means of building a better future. That, above all, quality education should be equal, inclusive, and absolutely free. That’s why we are building strong relationships around the world, we focus especially on those who need it the most and own this story together – down to all it needs to power up the future of jobs and remove barriers. It’s a new way of designing better lives for everyone.”
21st-century skills for the future of jobs
More than 3,000 children have participated in programming and personal development courses organized by Dalia’s Book, and more than 500 volunteers have ventured into this challenge to support the Romanian education system in over 3,764 online teaching sessions carried out over 7,514 hours.
Currently, Dalia’s Book has three ongoing projects, all aiming to contribute to the support of the Romanian education system and give all children an equal chance at adequate preparation for a future that promises to be very competitive.
The “Hack the Future” project is supported by Societe Generale Global Solution Centre Romania as part of the company’s activity to support the development of skills, level of education, and professional integration of vulnerable groups.
