Eviden and West University of Timisoara open new cybersecurity lab to empower Romania’s next generation of cyber experts

The opening of the Cyber Lab comes a year after the launch of Eviden and West University’s Master’s in Cybersecurity

Eviden, the Atos Group business leading in digital, cloud, big data and security today announces the launch of a new cybersecurity technology and applications lab, in collaboration with the West University of Timisoara (UVT).

This initiative marks an important step in Eviden’s commitment to improving cybersecurity education, addressing the shortage of cybersecurity skills in Romania, and innovating in the field. The opening of the lab comes a year after the launch of the Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, taught exclusively in English, by West University and Eviden.
By 2022, the shortage of cybersecurity professionals was estimated at between 260,000 and 500,000. The EU’s cybersecurity workforce needs have been estimated at 883,000 professionals.

The cybersecurity technologies and applications laboratory will train top-level professionals in an innovative space equipped with the highest standards in the field of cybersecurity. It will specialize in learning, testing and piloting data security applications. Thanks to the training provided by Eviden’s experts, students will be able to deepen their knowledge of specific skills such as cybersecurity, investment fraud, deepfakes, password security, social engineering, cryptography, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The lab will focus on Cloud security, DevSecOps, and Pentesting, which are critical areas today.

In the summer of this year, the partnership was extended by the organization of the “EACH Eviden – Collaboration Hub Academy”, aimed at identifying themes and projects in the field of artificial intelligence and big data, and exploring the possibility of strengthening European consortia aimed at developing European projects to apply for funding under the DIGITAL and HORIZON calls.
