Vivek Bakshi, Wipro Technologies: “The current challenge is to create that employee stickiness”
“The pandemic and the current economic and geopolitical landscape have influenced not just our industry, but all industries. As far as we are concerned, there have been positive aspects as well as negative ones.
Our business has grown; we were able to retain people longer when the pandemic started. That is no longer the case now. The shift to remote work environment demonstrates that it was possible to break mindsets, and doubts that people had.
It also brought forward a very important topic, which is the area of sustainability and sustainability is a buzz word across industries today.
There were areas of transformation across the industry, it brought new opportunities, new challenges. One negative aspect was the increase in the number of cyberattacks, but this raises the opportunity to provide cyber risk services, for example,” Vivek Bakshi, General Manager, Wipro Technologies said during Romanian Business Services Forum 2022 organized by Outsourcing Today.
“The biggest transformation was the shift to remote work. I personally think this it’s not sustainable to have a 100 percent remote work environment and it’s also not healthy for us as human beings.
I agree that we will not come back to the old days of working before the pandemic. One of the challenges we are facing is the lack of stickiness. People who have joined during the pandemic don’t identify with your company culture. We need to ensure that people who are joining remotely, who never met their colleagues, understand the company values, understand the company culture. This is a challenge across industries. The current challenge is to create that ‘stickiness’, to build that culture and to do it remotely with the new way of working.
Last year we have committed to a net-zero emissions goal. We will reduce 50 percent of our emissions by 2030, and we will have zero emissions by 2040. That includes everyone in our supply chain.
From my perspective, Romania has always been an employee market and I’ve been here for the last 15 years. Even since 2006-2007, we were having problems finding the right people for the jobs, and I’m talking here about the IT sector. The talent pool has increased in the last years, and you have more flexibility in delivering solutions to your clients.”
