The Association for Values in Education (AVE) launches HumanKind, the socio-emotional education program – SEL, through which teachers will be trained to support students in the optimal development of socio-emotional skills.
The program starts with a pilot, which included 12 public schools from Iași, Botoșani, Suceava, Dâmbovița, Olt, Sibiu, Neamț, Satu Mare and Ilfov counties. The initiative is being developed in partnership with MindUP ™ |
The Goldie Hawn Foundation and aims to expand nationwide.
„The program developed by AVE Romania together with MindUP ™ | The Goldie Hawn Foundation will contribute to the development of tomorrow’s adults so that they can make responsible decisions, guided by kindness, compassion and empathy, both in their personal lives and in their contribution to society, ”says Radu Manolescu, co-author, founder and president of the AVE Romania board.
“We live in a time when the effects of stress and anxiety are increasingly felt by children around the world. That is why it is a joy for us to develop and implement in Romania, together with the Association for Values in Education, our MindUP program. In this way, we offer Romanian teachers the tools to address issues related to emotional health and children’s development and help them to develop harmoniously, with positive effects both in terms of academic results and in private life, ” said Goldie Hawn, Founder and CEO of the Goldie Hawn Foundation.
12 schools in Romania, supported by HumanKind, for the socio-emotional education of students
The first edition of HumanKind will take place between February 26, 2022 – June 15, 2023, with 12 schools in Romania. In the first 10 months of the project, the 60 selected teachers and 12 school principals take part in intensive training courses, through training and mentoring sessions and will apply to the class the notions of socio-emotional education learned.
The trainers in the program, specialists with international experience, will collaborate with the AVE team to train teachers in terms of awareness and understanding of their own emotions, but also how they can be applied in working with students concepts such as understanding the relationship with oneself and others. , responsible decision making or emotional self-control.
The program is based on scientific techniques in the fields of neuroscience, positive psychology, socio-emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness.
“Emotional health is extremely important, especially in the context in which, including in Romania, the emotional instability of students is a common phenomenon. Studies conducted by Casel.org have shown that approximately 27% of students who have gone through a socio-emotional education program have improved their academic performance, and 24% of them have felt less stressed. Therefore, in partnership with MindUP ™ | The Goldie Hawn Foundation brings to Romania a program through which we provide teachers with the necessary tools to help support children for balanced long-term development, “said Anca Alexe, Social Emotional Learning Program Manager, within the Association for Values in Education
“In order to get good academic results, students need to be happy, and this is possible when they can manage their emotions correctly. Balance and well-being come from a harmonious relationship both with your own inner world and with what surrounds you. Otherwise, under stress and pressure, children will not be able to perform and will have difficulty progressing. Therefore, it is essential to contribute to their development from a socio-emotional perspective. That’s the only way they want to succeed in adulthood, both personally and professionally, and through HumanKind we are glad that we are able to work now with teachers in Romania and to intervene in their training “, Dido Balla, Global Director of Training and Relationships MindUP and trainer in the HumanKind program.
MindUP – the experience of the program implemented in 14 countries now reaches schools in Romania Since 2003, the MindUP program has been implemented in 14 countries, and now it is reaching Romanian schools for the first time. By collaborating with AVE, the MindUP program, children are helped through teachers to form healthy relationships, necessary for a harmonious evolution first during school, and later at work and in personal life.
Following the pilot edition, the organizers of HumanKind aim to expand the number to the national level. More details on the program here: https://ave-romania.ro/humankind/.
