Little London designated pilot school by the Ministry of Education for new high school curriculum frameworks
- Students will be able to choose their educational path based on their interests
- Leadership, entrepreneurship, astronomy, smart digital applications, applied genetics, and modern biotechnologies among the electives offered by Little London
Liceul Teoretic „Little London”, a private educational institution in Romania that values the national education system, has been granted pilot school status for the implementation of the new high school curriculum frameworks, starting with the 2026–2027 academic year. The school is the only one in Ilfov County included in the national pilot school program run by the Ministry of Education and Research, among the 32 high schools selected nationwide to test this model.
The new curriculum frameworks differ from the standard system through increased flexibility and a stronger focus on specialization. Students will no longer follow a uniform path but will be able to gradually shape a personalized educational journey, combining a core foundation with elective subjects selected from the school’s diverse offer.
The model includes a core curriculum that ensures foundational learning through subjects such as Romanian language, modern languages, mathematics, sciences, history, geography, social sciences, and physical education. In addition, starting from the first year, students will have access to elective components (Student-Selected Curriculum from the School’s Offer). In the final years of high school, the share of elective subjects increases significantly, allowing students to focus on areas relevant to their academic and professional goals.
The elective courses include subjects tailored to the interests of today’s generation, with direct relevance to the future job market, such as leadership, entrepreneurship, astronomy, smart digital applications, applied genetics, and modern biotechnologies.
“Achieving pilot school status for the implementation of alternative high school curriculum frameworks is a continuation of our commitment to actively contribute to the modernization of education in Romania. We believe the current system has a solid foundation, but it can be further complemented and better adapted to the evolving needs of students, particularly through a more flexible and personalized approach to education. In this context, we focus on developing essential future skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and decision-making, which support students in shaping a clear academic and professional path, as well as integrating more easily into a constantly changing society and job market,” said Luminița Macsim, founding member of Little London.
The project offers tangible benefits to students, giving them more control over their educational journey, the opportunity to deepen knowledge in areas relevant to their future, and the development of skills aligned with today’s realities. Throughout the selection process, students are supported through career guidance and counseling, as well as by aligning their choices with the Baccalaureate exam and their future academic path. In addition, learning with purpose and direction is one of the most important benefits of this model.

“At Little London, we are constantly working to offer modern alternatives to the traditional curriculum through a student-centered approach. This is the second pilot project we are implementing, as a response to the need for a more flexible and relevant education system. At the same time, we aim to maintain a balance between core academic preparation and specialization, tailored to both the graduate profile and the current needs of the younger generation. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to contributing to an educational model that can inspire other institutions,” said Alexandra Toader, Educational Director of Little London.
Throughout its activity, Little London has focused on developing a modern Romanian educational model centered on the student, combining academic rigor with the development of communication skills and applied creativity.
In addition, Liceul Teoretic „Little London” is among the 17 educational institutions that were granted pilot school status in the 2025–2026 academic year for a model previously introduced by the Colegiul Național „Gheorghe Lazăr”. Under that model, 12th-grade students focus exclusively, starting from the third module, on subjects relevant to the Baccalaureate exam, depending on their academic track.
