AD/01 Reaches 200 Employees and Strengthens Its Role as a Strategic Technology Hub for Food Retail

AD/01, the tech studio that builds digital solutions for Ahold Delhaize brands, proudly announces a new growth milestone: a team of over 200 engineers in Bucharest.

Launched in 2024, AD/01 has rapidly evolved into a strategic technology hub for digital product development, supporting Ahold Delhaize’s ongoing digital transformation and innovation initiatives across its European retail brands.

“Our great local brands strive to create the leading local food shopping experience. As part of our tech ambitions, we focus on providing seamless digitally enabled experiences, whether in-store down the aisles, at the checkouts, or behind the scenes. For this, we need engineering talent, and we are proud to celebrate the key milestone with AD/01,” said Gerhard van der Bijl, CTO Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia.

AD/01 brings together experts in software engineering, cloud, data analytics, quality assurance, product management, and design – all focused on developing technology and solutions that enhances customer experience and operational efficiency. The company aims to continue this growth trajectory, with a target of reaching more than 236 employees by the end of 2025.

Regional Expansion Plans

Following a successful first year marked by rapid growth and impactful projects, AD/01 is expanding further across Eastern Europe. The next step is to establish a second Tech Hub in Belgrade – Serbia, which will complement the expertise and capabilities of the Bucharest hub.
