Romania ranks among the top countries in the European Union in terms of foreign language learning in schools, but the labor market continues to experience major language barriers. According to Eurostat, in 2021, over 86% of Romanian primary school students, 98.5% of middle school students and 91% of high school students studied at least one foreign language. However, among adults, Romania ranks second in the EU among those who declare that they do not speak any foreign language (over 64% of citizens).
This reality is directly reflected in the labor market: 60% of job vacancies published in Romania in 2025 explicitly mentioned knowledge of a foreign language as a mandatory requirement, especially English (over 48,000 jobs), followed by German (8,100), French (3,400) and Italian (2,400). More and more employers are demanding English communication skills even at entry-level, and multinational companies are looking for employees who speak rarer languages, such as Dutch, Portuguese, Greek or Slovak.
“Language skills are no longer just an asset, but the key that opens the way to performance and confidence. When we combine them with care for wellbeing, we form resilient, motivated teams prepared to transform future challenges into opportunities. Investing in people thus becomes the most powerful growth strategy, and employee linguistic development translates not only into retention and global competitiveness, but also into the courage to lead change. Companies that choose to make this aspect a priority ensure not only their adaptability, but also a strategic advantage over the competition”, declared Delia Dragomir, co-founder of Eucom.
Founded in 2002 by Delia and Silviu Dragomir, Eucom is the market leader in language education for the corporate sector in Romania and has a rich portfolio of language specialists, some of whom are also specialized in skills development programs.
Eucom has developed its own methodology, tested and validated in the business environment. Thus, Eucom programs are personalized according to the typology of the learners, their learning style and skills development needs. Course delivery is done online, hybrid or onsite, depending on the specifics of each company. The national network of collaborators and continuous recruitment processes ensure the rapid and efficient implementation of the programs, including for employees working remotely or in organizations with national coverage.
The company collaborates with over 200 companies for language training programs and with over 100 clients for assessment services, covering various industries such as banking, retail, energy and natural gas, pharma, shared services, IT, automotive, tourism, the food industry and heavy industry.
Eucom also has the competitive advantage of delivering these programs in the most widely used languages in Romanian corporations. Eucom offers English courses for all levels, from A1 to C2, according to international standards. The program is designed to develop communication skills, emphasizing language understanding and its use in everyday and professional contexts.
According to Eucom’s internal evaluations, for employees, the immediate advantages of learning a foreign language include increased productivity, reduced task completion time, and the chance to move up to middle and top management roles more quickly. From the perspective of employers, one of the advantages is preparing the succession for future leaders of organizations.
Eucom’s impact on the labor market
At the end of 2024, Eucom delivered 180,000 hours of language training and assessment, with over 45,000 learners and assessments. In total, the company has positively influenced the careers and professional lives of over 160,000 adults in Romania. With a portfolio of over 200 client companies in fields such as IT, pharma, banking, retail, energy, automotive or tourism, Eucom has developed personalized programs, from intensive courses and conversation clubs on business topics, to organizational wellbeing programs.
Between January and August 2025, over 16,000 Romanians chose to participate in the foreign language courses offered by Eucom, and English continues to be the most requested language, with 9,186 students. German is in second place, with 2,712 participants, followed by French, which was chosen by 1,976 students. Italian courses also attracted 1,721 people, and Spanish modules were attended by 1,107 participants.
To directly respond to the need of companies to develop healthy, motivated and high-performing teams, Eucom is integrating language training with organizational wellbeing programs (nutrition, coaching and emotional health) for the first time in Romania.
This fall, Eucom will launch two key programs that will be central to the company’s development in 2026. The first program, EN Business (B2C), aims to introduce English courses tailored to professionals seeking rapid career advancement. The second module, 3D Lifestyle Program (B2B), is an integrated package of language, wellbeing and soft skills training, dedicated to companies investing in high-performing and healthy teams.
“Eucom’s success is due to its own methodology, adapted to the specifics of each company and the level of competence of the trainees, as well as the flexibility in the delivery of programs (online, hybrid, in-house). Another key differentiator is the integration of linguistic skills with the development of soft skills and wellbeing, which strengthens the organizational culture of clients. We emphasize people! Partnership, as an essential value of Eucom, brings people to the forefront, on the one hand, our specialists through whom the evaluation and development systems come to life, and on the other hand, the direct beneficiary of our services (the trainee, the candidate), whose development, retention and efficiency represent the very ROI promised to the employing company”, added Delia Dragomir.
Eucom initiated HeRoe.s HRing Podcast, a project that brings together the HR and Business communities. Under the moderation of Delia Dragomir, human resources specialists offer concrete solutions to the challenges of the labor market, both locally and globally. The podcast is aimed at HR professionals who pursue excellence, as well as those interested in Romanian labor market trends and international professional developments.
Also, on September 24, Eucom will organize an event dedicated to HR professionals and team leaders, HR Evolution – Live Experience, an interactive session aimed at supporting the building of high-performing, healthy and sustainable organizations. The event is aimed at HR, L&D, Talent Acquisition professionals, team leaders, managers and entrepreneurs interested in optimizing recruitment and retention processes and developing autonomous and responsible teams, and will be hosted by Silviu Dragomir, Co-Founder of Eucom, together with Alina Filote, PCC (ICF).
