Fund managers can apply to the EIF for the EUR 100 million – investments in technology transfer, acceleration and co-investments from INNOVATION ROMANIA
The European Investment Fund (EIF) has launched the call for the selection of financial intermediaries under the venture capital instrument INNOVATION ROMANIA, financed by the Smart Growth, Digitalisation and Financial Instruments Programme (PoCIDIF) 2021-2027, with co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund.
The call is intended for fund management teams, incorporated or not at the date of submission of the application (expression of interest). The selection will be carried out by EIF experts, according to its own criteria and procedures described in the call. The call is not addressed to companies interested in obtaining capital investments – they will be able to subsequently request financing from the selected intermediaries.
INNOVATION ROMANIA was created by signing a financing agreement between the EIF and the Government of Romania in December 2024.
INNOVATION ROMANIA aims to create financial instruments adapted to the needs of the local market and which, so far, have been insufficiently developed. Thus, the call includes three types of equity funds, with a total budget of 100 million euros, without a pre-established allocation between the types of instruments:
• Technology Transfer Fund – intended to capitalize on research and innovation results;
• Co-investment Fund, especially with “business angels” – intended to strengthen the community of private investors and facilitate their involvement in the development of Romanian entrepreneurship;
• Entrepreneurship Acceleration Fund – dedicated to supporting early-stage companies and stimulating their growth.
Venture capital investments will take place only in Romania, in compliance with the criteria for encouraging innovation described in the call.
Interested fund management teams are invited to consult the call documentation available HERE and submit expressions of interest by the submission deadline – 15 November 2025. Expressions of interest and requests for clarification should be sent exclusively to the EIF at innovation-romania@eif.org.
