Netopia Payments: Number of online transactions increased over 40 per cent in 2019
Romanian online payments processor Netopia Payments announced a 41 per cent increase of digital transactions processed in 2019 compared to previous year, the company announced. The company processed over 2 million online transactions performed by card or SMS monthly in 2019, according to the company’s representatives.
According to company representatives, NETOPIA Payments exceeded the threshold of 15,000 merchant partners in 2019. Also, 550,000 unique users make various monthly payments online, through the services provided by the company.
In 2019, the average value of the transaction decreased by approx. 15% compared to the previous year, due to the diversification of services and products that can currently be paid online. The largest transaction processed by NETOPIA Payments last year was worth about 24,500 euros and consisted of the payment of a package of tourist services.
Among the top categories of products and services for which Romanians made digital card payments last year were: tourism, events, home & deco, payment of utility bills and shared mobility solutions.
“From year to year we see a significant increase in the number of online transactions, which indicates a consolidation of the market in this direction. More enjoyable is the fact that most users choose to make daily payments from their own smartphones, which gives them a faster rate of purchase of the desired services or products. For the current year, we aim to increase both the number of merchants registered on our platform, as well as the number of users who choose to pay online and we want this to become a constant custom in the daily lives of Romanians, “said Antonio Eram, CEO and Founder of NETOPIA Payments.
62% of users prefer online payments on mobile devices
From the data of the company, approx. 62% of all transactions processed last year were made from mobile devices, compared to 38% of the final customers who chose the desktop for online payments. Of those who transacted on mobile, about 75% used a device with Android operating system and 25% an iOS operating system.
According to NETOPIA Payments, 42% of the total transactions carried out last year were made by people between the ages of 25 and 34, followed by the 35-44 year old segment (26%) and by the young people between 18-24 years old. years (12.5%). Online payments were mostly made by men, with a share of 72.5% of the total.
At country level, Bucharest and Cluj ranks in term of online payments. In the top cities with residents who perfom online payments are also Timis, Brasov, Iasi and Sibiu.
