University Al. I. Cuza in Iasi opens a SAP software solutions-equipped laboratory
Department of Economic Informatics within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA), University of Al. I. Cuza from Iași, announces the inauguration of the study laboratory that will host students from the Economic Informatics specialization.
The laboratory is equipped with hardware and software infrastructure through which the students will be prepared for business scenarios that they may encounter in real contexts, taking into account the rapid evolution of technologies. The project was carried out in collaboration with Red Point Software Solutions and is supported by SAP and Fujitsu.
Every year, the Department of Economic Informatics of FEAA, within the University Al. I. Cuza in Iasi prepares more than 230 students and master’s students in a very attractive field for the digital economy. The Economic Informatics degree program has been in existence for 25 years and develops students skills in the areas of Management, Marketing, Accounting, Mathematics, Finance and Business Law, but also emphasizes technical disciplines: Software tools for business, Programming, Modeling, Basics of data, etc. Thus, the need for a modern work space was a real one, and Red Point Software Solutions took care to meet the students, also benefiting from the support of SAP and Fujitsu companies, which offered software and hardware solutions.
“Red Point has in its portfolio 30 universities in Romania, which manage their educational processes with the help of software and hardware solutions implemented by us, and over 200,000 students who check their school situation in the same applications. With the SAP lab sponsorship project, we confirm our involvement in the Higher Education industry by opening new opportunities for students in the fields of economics and IT. Thank you, SAP and Fujitsu, for your solid support in this project and good luck to future SAP learners,” says Răzvan Gîdei, General Manager of Red Point Software Solutions
The very high demand for well-trained specialists for key positions in the local IT industry, as well as the still accelerated development of this field of activity, have made the Economic Informatics study program one of the most sought after in the educational offer proposed by the University of Iași. FEAA sought support in 2022 for the project to renovate and equip a laboratory dedicated to students following this study program, and help came from Red Point Software Solutions, SAP, and Fujitsu. The total investment in renovating and equipping the laboratory with solutions that meet current market needs amounts to 65,000 euros.
“It is a great joy and I am proud that SAP is part of this project that is so necessary and useful for students. In my opinion, combating the labor shortage on the Romanian IT market is also in the hands of the companies in the market, implicitly in our hands as well. That’s why we need to do everything we can to help increase the volume and quality of specialists in the field and expand the pool of existing talent. Thank you, Red Point Software Solutions and Fujitsu for this collaboration that gives us the opportunity to move things for the better – in short, to build the future together.” says Diana David, Managing Director of SAP Romania.
The design and construction of the laboratory was handled by the Red Point company, offering interior architecture and IT infrastructure solutions. SAP, as a partner, provided business applications necessary to support IT courses, Fujitsu provided hardware infrastructure and workstations, and Intel provided processors from the Intel Core i5 series.
Starting with the 2022-2023 academic year, the laboratory is functional and can host classes of 40-45 students.
The technical sheet of the workstations located in the new laboratory of the University Al. I. Cuza from Iași looks like this:
• Fujitsu Primegy RX2540 M6 rack server with Intel Xeon processors
• Fujitsu ESPRIMO G9010 desktops
• FUJITSU B24-9 TS displays
• Intel i5 processors with vPro technology
• Licenses and cloud subscriptions for SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business byDesign and SAP Success Factors HR.
With the help of these components, students will be able to directly experience any work scenario for the previously mentioned SAP solutions. Servers provided by Fujitsu are certified for the SAP environment, supporting students who want to learn both how to install and administer SAP solutions.
“Fujitsu continues cooperation with educational institutions and organizations in Romania to create educational technologies adapted to their needs. More than ever, our involvement is necessary to really face the challenges in higher education and the training needs of a new generation of specialists. Even if young people grow up as digital natives, they cannot face the challenges of the digital world at work alone. During their studies, they learn how to use digital technologies. Therefore, these technologies must be integrated into the daily life of higher education institutions. In this context, we are glad that we could contribute to the implementation of this project together with Red Point Software Solutions and SAP Romania. Fujitsu offers students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration the chance to put into practice, on equipment and with the latest Fujitsu solutions, all the theoretical notions acquired from their professors, ” says Valentin Mateiași, Balkans Distribution Manager Fujitsu.
The main beneficiaries of the laboratory equipped with SAP software solutions are the students of the Economic Informatics specialization at FEAA. Here, the laboratories and practical courses of computer-specific subjects will be held for students following the bachelor’s program. At the same time, the students from the Master’s programs Information Systems in Business and Software Development and Business Information Systems will benefit from the recently inaugurated laboratory. At the same time, on weekends, the laboratory will host meetings of a SAP Club of extracurricular courses.
