High school students who have prepared for BAC in “CreȘTEM Viitor” program, have a 100% success rate in STEM subjects
The 12th grade students, who prepared for the Baccalaureate exam this summer, within the “CreȘTEM Viitor” program – a free training project, dedicated to high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Romania, supported by the non-governmental organization Școala de Valori, in partnership with the American company Raytheon Missiles and Defense, had a 100% success rate on the maturity exam.
All participants in the program obtained good grades in STEM subjects (computer science, mathematics, biology), for which they received specialized help. At the same time, regarding their career plans, 96% of the students claim that they are going to enroll in faculties with a real or technical profile. “CreȘTEM Viitor” prepared young people for free for the Baccalaureate exam.
This is a program supported by the non-governmental organization Values School, in partnership with the American company Raytheon Missiles and Defense, a division of Raytheon Technologies, came to an end in early July. The project, in its first edition, started in December 2020 and lasted for almost seven months.
It consisted of a free preparation program for the 2021 Baccalaureate exam, dedicated to high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the country. 30 12th grade students from several counties of the country (mainly from Maramureș, Dolj, Iași, Prahova, Satu-Mare and Vaslui), were selected in the program and benefited from additional training, which helped them to brilliantly pass the BAC exam tests in STEM subjects (computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology) – the project thus registering a success rate of 100%. In fact, some of the students obtained very high marks (between 9.65 and 9.85) in STEM subjects, among them even a regional Olympian in mathematics and computer science.
“Teaching and learning STEM subjects has become very useful, both for education and for society in general. STEM subjects help young people to orient themselves in fields such as computer science (IT programming), engineering, petrochemistry, biochemistry, geology, medicine or anthropology, offering them brilliant career opportunities. The fact that we have achieved a real success with this program makes us happy and makes us responsible, in the same measure, to design projects that are as innovative and useful as possible for the students from Romania ”, states Silvia Bogdan, president of Scoala de Valori association.
Almost all the 30 participants of the program claim that they are going to enroll in faculties with a real or technical profile. Among the specializations mentioned by 96% of the young graduates are Computer Science, Automation and Computers, Construction and Aerospace Engineering, General Medicine or Military Medicine. The rest of the students target socio-human specializations, such as Pedagogy, General Medicine or Military. Young people confess that they want to work in the fields they are passionate about, focusing on jobs that will help them evolve, both professionally and personally.
“The offered support, over so many months, helped me a lot in preparing for the computer science exam. I was very worried, considering the online school and the difficult period of the last year, beyond the normal emotions regarding the importance of such an exam. Following the enrollment in college, I will continue to specialize in computer science. Basically, it will start a defining stage for my career “, states Soare Mihai, graduate of the CreȘTEM Viitor program.
This program targeted students from Romania, passionate about science and technology, who wanted to leave their mark on the future through a career in one of these fields, but who did not have financial help or support from the family. , allowing them to prepare in this direction. Thus, 30 students were selected, without material and educational possibilities, who obtained good school results (averages of at least 7 in STEM subjects).
Each student in the program was counseled and trained free of charge by a mentor, had access to a website, where he could view and upload homework, take tests and access study materials at any time. At the same time, in addition to preparing for exams, young people were also helped in the study process for admission to faculties with a real or technical profile.
Also, during this period, students participated in workshops developed by the School of Values, designed to help them develop their personal self-esteem, increase their self-esteem and provide them with a framework in which to discover their true potential. During the workshops, the young people talked to experts in the STEM fields – representatives of the American company Raytheon or other specialists from other companies in Romania.
