“Financial Education Workshops for Teachers” program counted of 28 economic and financial education workshops, 800 teachers from 20 cities
The National Bank of Romania (BNR), the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), the Romanian Association of Banks (ARB), the Romanian Banking Institute (IBR) and the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB) organized, between June and September 2025, the second edition of the “Financial Education Workshops for Teachers” program, which included a number of 28 economic and financial education workshops at the national level for teachers in pre-university education. The activities were organized in 20 cities in the country, including Bucharest, and brought together over 800 teachers.
The project is aimed at teachers in the middle and high school cycles in their capacity as trainers and multipliers of educational messages for students.
The information presented by the lecturers from the NBR, ARB, IBR and FGDB covered various topics of varying complexity, which aimed not only to transmit knowledge/recommendations in the area of personal finances (creating and managing a personal budget, saving principles and strategies, characteristics of credit products, modern payment instruments and associated fraud risks), to familiarize with the role and responsibilities of the National Bank of Romania and credit institutions, as well as to present the developments in the Romanian economy in the period after accession to the European Union.
The activities also facilitated an exchange of experience regarding the economic and financial education needs of students and the appropriate methodologies for interactions with them.
The necessary infrastructure was provided by the National Bank of Romania and allowed the creation of a framework for debates and interactive discussions. The project was organized with the support of the County School Inspectorates and the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest.
The approach is part of the benchmarks of the National Financial Education Strategy (SNEF) 2024-2030, being part of its Action Plan under Specific Objective 2: Increasing the level of knowledge of teachers regarding financial education, by implementing financial education programs for teachers in pre-university and university education and organizing professional training courses for teachers aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of financial education.
