SoftServe Romania: 7 essential IT skills for the current and future job market

The IT industry is constantly evolving, and to stay competitive, specialists must keep up with new technologies. SoftServe, a global provider of IT consulting and digital services, reveals which IT skills are in demand in 2025.
“In a world in constant evolution, companies are always looking for solutions that increase performance and efficiency, and technology is most often at the center of these initiatives. Key areas such as AI/ML, Big Data, Cloud DevOps or IoT are areas in which experts from Romania are sought, even in the context of a still cautious IT industry. Currently, within SoftServe, open positions are predominantly found in these areas, but also in Front-End development and platforms, such as Salesforce and ServiceNow,” says Lili Grecu, Talent Operations Manager at SoftServe Romania.
Based on industry trends and internally observed demand, the SoftServe team conducted a review of the skills sought this year.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML)
The global Artificial Intelligence market is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Thus, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are skills that have come on the radar of specialists in various fields.
Companies in various industries, such as healthcare, finance, and retail, rely on artificial intelligence to develop innovative solutions, which require advanced knowledge in various programming languages such as Python, C++, Scala, etc., to develop systems capable of learning from their own processes.
Experience in building and operationalizing machine learning models, including data manipulation, experiment design, development of analysis plans, and generation of insights are also key skills. In addition, specialists with knowledge of KubeFlow and TensorFlow are highly sought after in this area of the IT job market.
Data Science and Big Data
Big Data and Data Science are two critical areas that have maintained their importance in recent years and will continue to be at the top. Specialists who can analyze and manage large volumes of data are indispensable in sectors such as healthcare, finance and e-commerce. The use of programming languages such as Python and tools such as Hadoop or Spark can be advantages. Also, expertise in some of the major cloud platforms is essential in the field of Big Data.
Digital Twin technology, IoT, automation and industrial metaverse
Automation and simulation of the performance of physical systems through Digital Twin technology is another IT area in which senior specialists are sought.
Specialists in programming and modeling are sought, especially in manufacturing, and programming and automation skills are indispensable for the development of this sector. In the current landscape, understanding key concepts such as process simulation and optimization, digital twins, industrial metaverse, OT and IT convergence, advanced automation and edge computing is essential.
Additionally, familiarity with Big Data, ML/AI, IoT, and XR/VR technologies for solving industrial challenges – such as visual quality control, predictive maintenance, operational analytics, and virtual training – further strengthens the ability to innovate and optimize industrial processes.
Platforms: Salesforce
Expertise in popular platforms like Salesforce is also on the radar of companies. Due to the growing demand for customer relationship digitization and business process automation, Salesforce consultants and developers are increasingly sought after, both globally and locally.
DevOps and Automation
Another essential specialization in digitalization projects is DevOps, and those with strong infrastructure and/or programming skills are important players in today’s digitalized organizations.
Today, using GenAI to optimize DevOps processes can accelerate problem identification and resolution, code generation, or automation of repetitive tasks, thus contributing to increased operational efficiency and constant innovation.
“Surely, skills and certifications in major cloud platforms, along with containers and Infrastructure as Code, are essential for a successful career in DevOps. However, AI tools, with an impact on efficiency, are also becoming very important, as is solid knowledge of CI/CD. At SoftServe, the DevOps center of excellence is involved in innovative projects, even R&D, and our specialists are constantly expanding their skills – each with secondary specializations, in addition to their main one, which allow them to work on the widest possible variety of projects,” says Răzvan Peneșel, Cloud DevOps Practice Lead at SoftServe Romania.
Cybersecurity Specializations
With the increase in cyber threats, cybersecurity remains one of the most important skills in 2025, being an integral part of IT systems and important even for engineers who are not cybersecurity specialists.
Cloud Computing Certifications
AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure are the most popular cloud services, and certifications obtained in these technologies add value to a specialist’s skills, especially in areas like Big Data and DevOps.
