Daniela Micusan, Majorel Romania: It is in tough times when a strong team culture shines through and shields against difficulties
In July this year, THE DIPLOMAT BUCHAREST & OUTSOURCING TODAY organized the sixth edition of ROMANIAN BUSINESS SERVICES FORUM & AWARDS 2020 with CEO Leaders Debate and a Gala Ceremony that rewarded and underlined the success of the most prominent companies acting in the Outsourcing – BPO, ITO and SSC industry in Romania.
As in each year, one of the most appreciated category was that of THE CEO OF THE YEAR. This award recognizes the activity of a head of operations – Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, general manager or company president, that demonstrated commitment to the Romanian outsourcing sector by creating a positive impact with the business he/she works in.
At this year’s edition, the award for The CEO of the Year went to Daniela Micusan, General Manager of Majorel Romania. At half of year’ s time that has passed and a rather interesting period for business in general, we spoke with Daniela Micusan to find out what is the current perspective of a CEO leading a major business in business shared services industry and what are the priorities and the main focus in the current landscape.
What does it mean to be CEO of the Year?
I am extremely proud and honored to receive this award, especially in 2020 that has been a challenging and unpredictable year for everyone. However, through our joint efforts and dedication, we have used this unparalleled moment in history as an opportunity to move forward. It gives me great pleasure to be a leader of such an amazing team.
What leadership skills do you find most useful in the current changing work environment?
I would highlight entrepreneurship and empowerment. The ability to turn ideas into actions includes creativity and innovation that we encourage at Majorel. Being a leader, I have a huge responsibility to my team. I inspire my colleagues and show them the way how to push themselves and, in turn, the company to greatness. Leading by example, I always empower our people and give freedom to turn their ideas into actions, to be bold and creative innovators and thus contribute to our common business objectives.
Which are the empowering mindsets, both for employers and employees, to keep each other engaged in reaching the business objectives in 2020 and the next year?
I believe, transparency and communication. As a leader, I seek for alignment within our team to all contribute and achieve superior results. Every day, I make sure, everyone knows their unique role in making our vision a reality. To keep our people engaged and build communities within our employees, we have launched a new Feel Good program, both locally and internationally. This program is specially designed to meet the support needs of our people while promoting a work environment driven by our values: creativity, excellence and respect.
What should be a CEO’s and leader’s power message conveyed to peers, partners and employees for 2021?
Despite the challenges and changes that the new era has brought, engagement, connectivity, and encouragement are the key to further move forward. I believe, it is in tough times when a strong team culture shines through and shields against difficulties. We have learned how to cope with challenges and as #OneTeam, are driven to go further.
My message is: surround yourself with smart, creative, strong and honest people, don’t be afraid to trust your team, be an active listener and have faith that together with them you can reach the extraordinary.
How can a CEO and leader of an organization capitalize on the current challenges to enhance and promote the company’s competition advantages currently?
Through the joint efforts of our amazing colleagues from four cities of Romania, during the crisis, we have carried out numerous activities both for the welfare of our employees and in support of the local economy. Majorel Romania has been a pioneer within Majorel Group at successfully adopting the work-from-home program. Even though all of our 1300 employees currently work from home, it is noteworthy that we stay as one team that strives to deliver excellence in this fast-paced and demanding industry.
The most notably, despite the crisis, we have further expanded our client portfolio and hired more than 300 new employees.
What current innovative measures / initiatives have been implemented within then organizations with focus on employee engagement?
Keeping a team united and engaged could be extremely difficult in times of the crisis; however, we have taken successful measures to deal with the current uncertain period. We have adjusted and redefined the way we do business, holding tight to our values. During the crisis, we have developed internal technical and operational tools to accommodate working from home and new needs of our clients.
Apart from that, we actively carry out a wide range of activities within designed to reach involvement and wellbeing of our community. Here I must talk about Feel Good Community Program that give our employees a voice, launching the local website www.createyourcareer.ro where we can connect with the external audience, in a creative way, launching the Talent Enrichment Program to further improve expertise amongst our colleagues; launching a Majorel Magazine, where we can share the news & updates with Majorel team, various contests, challenges and out-of-the-box initiatives- that speak about our values.
