NETOPIA Payments implemented a security protocol that will significantly reduce the duration of online payments
Electronic payment processor NETOPIA Payments adopted since last week, the new 3D Secure 2.0 security protocol, for all the clients enrolled in the platform. According to the company, the whole process went smoothly and without impacting the technical integration of the approximately 20,000 partner merchants.
The new 3D Secure 2.0 security protocol, in line with the new European directive on PSD2 payment services, brings a number of benefits for both merchants and users, especially in terms of mobile payments. The improved design improves the user experience on mobile devices, as it is fully compatible with digital wallet applications or in-app transactions.
“We keep the same goal of being innovative and we are among the first to implement the latest technologies. Starting last week, we introduced the new 3D Secure 2.0 security protocol, which we adopted without affecting in any way the activity of our partners, the upgrade being made entirely by the NETOPIA Payments team. For us, the security of partner merchants and their customers is the most important, which determines us to always be in step with the security updates related to online payments “, said Antonio Eram, CEO & Founder of NETOPIA Payments.
Another advantage of this new protocol is the improvement of the debit process, by eliminating pop-ups or entering static passwords, while respecting the security procedures in force. This is possible due to the authentication based on the risk assessment that automatically determines the risk profile associated with that transaction. The trader’s platform will only require additional authentication if the risk is high, which only happens in the case of a small percentage of transactions. Thus, customers benefit from a simpler and uninterrupted shopping experience, which will lead them to return to the merchant’s website. On the other hand, traders benefit from increased protection against fraud and at the same time offer their customers protection against unauthorized transactions.
Moreover, the protocol can be used for more than for online transactions. By introducing the Free Authentication option, the cardholder can authenticate without being conditioned on making a payment, which is extremely useful when adding cards to electronic wallets.
