Raluca Burghelea, Country Managing Director, Accenture Romania: Companies should address stronger the necessity of building the psychological safety feeling for their employees

Recently, the leaders in business services industry gathered for sharing their latest insights on the evolution and shifts in their work and companies at the 11th Edition of THE ROMANIAN BUSINESS SERVICES FORUM & AWARDS.

In the discussion of the CEO Forum panel, Raluca Burghelea, Country Managing Director, Accenture Romania talked on the need of operational resilience, building the safety feeling at work for employees and the need of focusing on data security among others.

The reality is that uncertainty is here to stay. If we believe at any point in time that things are going to be how they used to be 5 years ago or 10 ten years ago, they are not going to. There is one word that needs to become our mantra, which is resilience. I know that it can sound overused, but it applies to organizations as well.

When you look at resilience, you look at it from 4 big angles. I would like to make a reference to what economies have gone through in terms of inflation, the new tariffs war. Operational resilience is one of the areas where companies need to invest whether we talk about sustainable supply chain, whether we talk about procurement policies, how we organize our processes to be able to be less dependent on the changes of the macroeconomic environment.

Then you have commercial resilience. You can’t pass over to your partners all the impact that you get from a commercial perspective by the ever-changing legislation and macroeconomic environment. So, companies need to invest into what commercial constructs they build to absorb some of this external impact through better productivity, for example, lower costs, implementation of new technologies which make processes seamless, more efficient and then how much do I pass over to my consumers. Within this resilience, you can’t leave people behind, which bring to the third angle: people resilience. You need to train your employees to cope with uncertainty. Human beings are very disrupted by uncertainty. We like a little bit of stability in our lives especially in period when you had change after change after change. Everybody I talked to feels the need to have a little bit of a quiet period.

So, how do you train your people to become better at dealing with uncertainty and how do you train them from a technology and ways of working perspective not to be left behind. Also, I would underline the aspects regarding building the safety feeling at work for employees. During the past years, we overcame harsh experiences such as burnouts, uncertainty, and the major question for companies is how to build a strong psychological feeling of safety for employees by designing a reliable support system to which they can address fearless and judgements-free.

The fourth angle, Technology resilience, as technology is here to stay. It’s growing exponentially, and it will continue to do that. How do you as organizations embrace technology as fast as possible, reshape the way you work and don’t leave behind something basic like security. Both companies and governments are significantly impacted by data security.
