Minister Bogdan Ivan spoke in front of over 50 ministers from GPAI, OECD and EU member states.
“We are at the table where decisions are made. Through the brilliant minds of Romanians in the IT industry, we are transforming our country into a regional hub of emerging technologies. And we are leaving no one behind! The impact of artificial intelligence technologies, from personalized medical solutions or autonomous cars to the automation of repetitive work tasks, must be assessed and harmonized with the respect of fundamental rights. I also said that accession to the OECD is the next national objective of our country on the global stage. By participating in the GPAI meeting, we have taken another important step in this direction”, stated Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.
In the perspective of accession to the OECD, GPAI is an essential organization for Romania’s economic evolution. Starting in 2024, GPAI announced an integration with the OECD, forming an integrated partnership that brings together OECD members and GPAI countries to advance an ambitious agenda in the implementation of a human-centered, safe and trustworthy AI, according to the principles of the OECD Recommendation on AI.
The meeting on 9 February was attended by ministers from the 44 GPAI member states, ministers from OECD and EU member states, respectively from 20 states invited by France, as well as representatives of international bodies: the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the African Union, the International Labour Organization. Background information The GPAI (Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence) is an international initiative launched in June 2020, initially proposed by Canada and France at the G7 Summit in 2018.
