Morgan<\/a> met with skeptical global central bank officials on Monday to discuss the emergence of new cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a stable value, CNBC online reads.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The consortium overseeing Facebook\u2019s libra cryptocurrency as well as representatives from J.P. Morgan laid out their plans for so-called stablecoins at a conference in Basel, Switzerland, the Bank for International Settlements said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bis.org\/press\/p190916.htm\" aria-label=\"\" data-type=\"\">statement<\/a>, quoted by CNBC. The BIS is an umbrella group for the world\u2019s largest central banks.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was called by a working group set up by the Group of Seven countries to scrutinize stablecoins like Facebook\u2019s. Benoit Coeure, a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/10000708\" aria-label=\"\" data-type=\"\">European Central Bank\u2019s<\/a> executive board, chaired the event. \u201cAs a new technology, stablecoins are largely untested, especially on the scale required to run a global payment system,\u201d Coeure said. \u201cThey give rise to a number of serious risks related to public policy priorities. The bar for regulatory approval will be high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Times reported on Sunday that Facebook representatives were set to meet with officials from 26 central banks including the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/federal-reserve\/\" aria-label=\"\" data-type=\"\">Federal Reserve<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/10000704\" aria-label=\"\" data-type=\"\">Bank of England<\/a>.
