The Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Dar\u0103u, signed a ministerial order on Wednesday establishing the Strategic Advisory Council for Digital Transformation and Information Technology, a body that will have concrete responsibilities in the field of digitalization.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have just signed\u2014with a pen\u2014the ministerial order establishing the Strategic Advisory Council for Digital Transformation and Information Technology under the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism. Yes, we are still signing by hand an order about digital transformation, and that image probably says more than anything else about where we still stand today as a state. Digital transformation means giving people back their time, ensuring fast and easily accessible public services, and making everything more transparent,” the minister wrote on Facebook.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that he wants to create a genuine framework for dialogue and collaboration, built on expertise and responsibility, and that “this Advisory Council will fill precisely the gap that has long been felt in society and within the institutions responsible for digitalization.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Strategic Advisory Council for Digital Transformation and Information Technology will bring together representatives of the ministry and its subordinate institutions, alongside representatives from technology companies, universities, research institutes, employers’ organizations, professional associations, the start-up ecosystem, and civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its members will be selected through a public call based on “transparent and merit-based criteria.” Their work will be unpaid, and the Council’s recommendations and conclusions will be made public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the coming period, we face major and critical projects: from the European Digital Identity Wallet and expanding the use of electronic signatures to adopting artificial intelligence and accelerating the digitalization of the economy and public services. For all of these, we need a shared vision, dialogue, and people who choose to build together. I firmly believe that digital transformation must become a cross-cutting priority for the entire public administration. It is by no means just an IT project or a project belonging to a single ministry. It must become a national modernization project for Romania. And it must be treated as an absolute priority,” Dar\u0103u added<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the minister, there are still institutions where processes have not been digitized, bureaucracy remains excessive, and too many systems are unable to communicate with one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are still talking about digitalization more than we are actually implementing it. When digital transformation is discussed, the conversation too often revolves solely around platforms, databases, interoperability, or artificial intelligence. I believe we should first and foremost be talking about people\u2014parents registering the birth of a child, young people starting their first business, families buying a home, citizens changing their address, registering a vehicle, paying their taxes, or simply needing a document from the state. Each of these important moments in life still involves too many trips, too many service counters, too many forms, and too much wasted time. Only when the state succeeds in giving people back their time will we be able to say that we truly live in a modern state,” the minister concluded in his post.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
