BCR Seed Starter, the first corporate venture capital (CVC) fund of a bank in Romania, has launched the Startup Playbook, a practical guide in nine chapters for founders at the beginning of their journey. Startup Playbook explains how problem validation and product-market fit take place, what is the real difference between pre-seed and seed, the mechanics of a fundraising round, how you evaluate an investor before he evaluates you, the go-to-market moment, sales, team building and how you move in the local ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guide developed by BCR Seed Starter works both for founders with operational experience and for those who are just starting out. For the former, it is a frame of reference for financing stages and investment criteria, while for first-time builders, it is a structured entry point, from the first validation exercises to the decision to raise external capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ROPEA\u2013Deloitte study (2024), the Romanian venture capital market generated \u20ac128.6 million from 78 transactions, part of a total of private equity and VC of \u20ac256.1 million, the highest level so far. Local capital remains limited, which means that most funds are still dependent on international investors. For a founder, this concretely means fewer local options and a steeper learning curve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Startup Playbook launch event took place at Builders House Bucharest and opened the larger conversation about the current state of the startup ecosystem in the region, which was also attended by Liviu Gherghescu (Head of Architecture BCR and Technology Advisor of the fund), Ion Gavrilescu (co-founder of FieldOS, a company in the BCR Seed Starter portfolio), Liviu Munteanu (Partner Founders Bridge) and Bogdan N\u0103forni\u021b\u0103 (co-founder of Profluo, company in the fund’s portfolio).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BCR Seed Starter was launched in January 2024, with a commitment of 5 million euros over five years. CVC invests in early-stage technology startups, with average tickets of 500,000 euros, in non-controlling minority stakes of up to 24.99%, and mainly targets startups in Romania or with Romanian founders, with MVPs, customers and recurring revenues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
