At least two AI factories will become operational during the year, while several existing HPC (High-Performance Computing) centers have been expanded by integrating dedicated AI capabilities based on architectures optimized for this type of computing.

The two AI factories are located in the center and south of the country and involve extensive collaborations between the public and private sectors, with total investments exceeding €70 million. In both cases, the projects align with European “AI factories” trends, built as GPU-heavy infrastructure. This includes state-of-the-art AI supercomputers, HPC infrastructure, access to data, AI models and tools, as well as training and support programs for companies, startups, and the research community.

RO AI Factory – A Strategic European Project at DataCenter Forum 2026

The RO AI Factory project, one of the most important AI investments in Romania and part of the European EuroHPC Joint Undertaking initiative, will be presented during the 2026 edition of DataCenter Forum Romania, including a keynote delivered by ICI Bucharest.

The RO AI Factory supercomputer will be a EuroHPC-class system, optimized for artificial intelligence tasks, advanced modeling, and the training of foundation models and Large Language Models (LLMs).

RO AI Factory will possess peak computing power unprecedented in Romania, with the complete system capable of reaching a theoretical performance of over 5 exaFLOPS in AI operations. This capacity places the infrastructure among the most advanced AI systems in Central and Eastern Europe, capable of supporting the training and deployment of next-generation AI models, including large-scale generative and multimodal models.

Through this performance, RO AI Factory will create the foundation for accelerating scientific research, industrial digitalization, and the development of innovative solutions with a major impact on the economy and society.

DataCenter Forum 2026: AI Computing and Digital Infrastructure Transformation

“ Romania is finally entering the map of major AI data center developments. We are not just referring to investments announced with European funds by the public sector, but especially to major data center developers from the US, UK, Western, and Northern Europe, who are very concretely analyzing the construction of centers ranging from 50–200 MW each.

There are locations in the center and west of the country, but also near Bucharest or in Dobrogea, which meet most essential criteria regarding location, power supply, connectivity, and resilience. We are, therefore, optimistic that new data center developments of unprecedented power and size for Romania will be announced soon.

Obviously, speed-to-market will be an essential element: the extent to which power is already available, permits can be obtained quickly, and construction can be accelerated—all these will influence final decisions, along with long-term electricity costs. In this sense, 10–20 year PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) contracts are under discussion,” stated Mihai Manole, Managing Partner of Tema Energy, the event organizer.

The massive transition toward AI computing is the central message of the 2026 edition of DataCenter Forum Romania and is reflected throughout the entire event agenda. Key guests include Rod Evans (NVIDIA Vice President for EMEA), Mehdi Paryavi (Chairman and CEO of the International Data Center Authority), and Jonathan Berney (Founder and Managing Partner of Accelerated Infrastructure Capital).

While NVIDIA is a company synonymous with “GPU computing,” Accelerated Infrastructure Capital already has a partnership with Cluster Power to develop an 800 MW “AI Zone” in Romania over the coming years.

The event reflects a major trend in the data center industry with a fundamental impact on the evolution of the digital society. Naturally, challenges remain, which is why the conference will host a first-of-its-kind panel dedicated to energy access and Romania’s strategy in this direction.

DataCenter Forum Romania 2026 will take place on May 7. The agenda includes 4 keynotes, 4 on-stage interviews, and 5 thematic panels, featuring 36 speakers.

The two projects exceed €70 million.
