Olivier Hecq, Head of SSC IT, SGEBS:" In order to stay relevant, the local industry perspective should adjust fast to changes

How to stay relevant in the economy: Fast adjusting to continuous change. The future characteristics of the workforce in the context of digital transformation, automation and data revolution are deeply impacting how companies now operate. Still, for industry companies, it is employees who are most important, because more than three quarters of the players on the market are planning to increase employment on the short term.

Hunting for the most gifted specialists and the needed operational staff, their retention and empowerment within the organization, their productivity is what matters at the end of the day. How do the companies are addressing all these aspects by taking into consideration the new features of the workforce market, defined by diversity of genres and generations, competitiveness and sharp regulations?

The capability of easily adjusting to different tasks and jobs is part of the solution, said Olivier Hecq, Head of SSC IT, SGEBS:" In order to stay relevant, the local industry perspective should adjust fast to changes. We need to take a look and refine the way we operate on the market, how we distribute the resources, the workforce, how we enable the professionals with the relevant jobs. The future will stand in our ability (companies and educational system) to attract more high school graduates in to the most demanded fields (IT, Finance, legal, etc.). The ability for education institutions to absorb that potential increase."

According to the manager, the market should be very aware and take into consideration the specifics of young generations at work and address the right questions: what truly empowers the young professional to excel at work. "The key differentiator for young generation, compared to the previous generations is the job meaning and this might be in fact one of the biggest challenges that we have faced so far. The challenge for our industry is how do we offer them that sense of empowerment and strong meaning in terms of business? How do we do this? "Olivier Hecq concluded.

Olivier Hecq joined Societe Generale European Business Services in October 2014 to start up the IT Shared Service Centre. He has been leading it since then, and the center is currently 400 staff strong. Olivier came with a wide experience in the domain, having lead, previously and during 6 years, an off-shore IT service center for other company. Before these off-shoring experiences, Olivier was a consultant since 1990 and had various functions and roles on a worldwide basis: software development, support/HelpDesk, consulting around IT operations and IT organization efficiency topics, global strategic alliances, capability development etc.

The statement has been uttered within the first session of Romanian Outsourcing & Shared Services Summit that happened this year in march and focused on the digital transformation, the artificial intelligence revolution upending every sector of the economy. This promises huge opportunities to businesses that invest early while others could get left behind. The organizations are rapidly transforming to agile enterprises that require rapid development cycles and close coordination between business, engineering and operations.
