Fab Lab Iasi issues the Report on Coworking in Central and Eastern Europe

This report was conducted by the PIN Maps teams (Iasi's modern office map, an impact initiative for the IT & Outsourcing industry) and Fab Lab Iasi (a 700 sqm coworking space, opened in 2017).

2018-05-23 18:50:14

The representatives of the two teams stated that the development of coworking spaces in a city is closely related to the economic indicators of that city, region or country. Also, the proportions between capital and regional cities, when considering coworking spaces, are an indicator of the health of the development of that development. From March 2018, some 1,166 Coworking hubs and spaces (independent or affiliated with global networks such as Fab Lab or Impact Hub) are counted in the Functional Urban Areas (cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants) in the CEE and new locations open each month in the whole region: the EU states (Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia), Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro , Serbia), but also on Belarus, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The report contains 8 detailed maps with various indicators and the correlation between them: Gross Domestic Product, Urban Development, Airports, University Centers, Distribution and Density of Coworking spaces, etc. The coworking phenomenon is also a socio-professional binder that prevents the isolation of freelancers who most often work from home and which increases the quality of the work done.

Moreover, having entrepreneurs and freelancers in the same common space leads to the stimulation of entrepreneurial sentiment through various sessions, events and workshops with different topics aimed at increasing the flow of information for those who want to develop and to implement an idea. Fab Lab Iasi (www.fablabiasi.ro), located in the eastern part of Romania, has an area of more than 700 sqm and offers different scenarios for flexible use of space (competing areas, collaboration, production space, educational halls, video conferencing facilities and office staff).

The space functions as an independent platform bringing together innovation and the technological community in Iasi. One of the most recent initiatives was the commissioning of a Coworking Tram, featuring free wireless internet, laptop and cell phone outlets, the tram library with PINMagazine magazines and specialist books, reclined chairs, and a preview of this report on coworking spaces in Central and Eastern Europe.
