The two major factors, the wages and the fast way to get a job are the main triggers that influence the high school graduates to apply for a university where they can learn foreign languages. According to data on the market, a specialized translator in Arabic or Asian languages can expect a starting gross salary at 1.000 Euro and can reach 4.000 Euro per month. This year only, at the University in Bucharest, the faculty specializing on applied modern languages gathered 1.700 candidates, with 76 candidates for one available place.

According to Horia Bugarin, the general manager of IHM Total Consult recruitment company in Timisoara, also the salaries in Western Romania register a significant growth, shrinking the gap faced in previous years if compared to Bucharest. According to the manager, especially the blue-collars' salaries are expected to grow, over the national average. "It is more cost effective to retain employees by increasing salaries than searching people elsewhere."

The National Institute of Statistics shows that, except Bucharest, three counties in Romania post net wages that surpass 2.000 lei per month: Ilfov, Timis and Cluj. Last year, according to statistics, a Bucharest-based employee earned an average of 2.700 lei per month as net wages, with 45 per cent more compared to the national average. The lowest wages, under 1.500 lei net are in Neamt, Harghita, Maramures, Vaslui, Bihor and Covasna.
